While a positive attitude definitely beats a skeptical disposition when trying magnetic resonance stimulation, the possibility of placebo has always been addressed by health professionals or even users.
It may be interesting to know that more studies have been conducted with pulsed magnetic fields then with Aspirin, to name one example. Study sources are: www.pubmed.com (research studies PEMF ) or www.pemf.com .
Placebos (Latin for “I shall please”) are most commonly defined of what they lack: active ingredients. But this is exactly the wrong way to look at them. As it turns out, placebos are much more powerful than previously imagined. However doctors are trained to look for cause-and-effect explanations. They want to be able to define the mechanisms of improvement, to see “something” rather than “nothing”. First time MRS users usually expect to feel “something” rather than “nothing”. To find the respective answer, please refer to FAQs provided in this website.
It is important to recognize what placebos are not. Some people get better by themselves, some seemed to improve because they initially appeared to be sicker than they really were. And sometimes both patients and doctors kid themselves into seeing improvement when there isn’t any. Real placebo effects are genuine psycho-biological phenomena in the brain that produce measurable changes in the body. This means that the neurochemical changes produced by expectations of relief can become reality. (Fabricio Benedetti, author of The Patient’s Brain”.)
Examining placebos in conjunction with MRS it may be helpful to evaluate studies made with animals. I personally would recommend to watch the video and documentation by Nancy Nunke, Stars and Stripes Ranch, Ramona California, which proves the powerful biophysical effect of pulsed magnetic fields on terminally ill horses.

In addition the immediate effect of pulsed magnetic fields can be demonstrated in the following blood sample:

Below MRS double blind and randomized study results prove the unambiguous effect of this treatment method. Double blind means that neither the patient nor the therapist knows whether the treatment is a placebo. Randomized is the specific selection of patients.
SPINAL FUSION (SPONDYLODESIS)
Examples:
61 patients for chronic lumbago. Success rate in the magnetic field group 97.6% compared to 52.6% in the placebo group.
195 patients with lumbar “interbody” fusion; ( double blind study). Success rate using a magnetic field 92%, using a placebo 65%.
HEADACHES AND MIGRANE
Examples:
12 migraine patients. Study set up double blind, cross-over (i.e. the placebo patients are given the actual magnetic field treatment in a second run through and vice versa).
Result:
The frequency of the attacks was reduced drastically when treated with magnetic field therapy.
Before MRS treatment:
- 3.32 attacks per week
After 14 days of MRS treatment:
- 0.58 attacks per week
42 migraine patients ( double blind study).
Result:
Magnetic field therapy
- 45% good improvement
- 14% excellent improvement
Placebo group
- 15% good improvement
- 0% excellent improvement
- 15% deterioration
Follow-up check after one month:
Magnetic field group 29% good improvement, 43% excellent improvement.
82 headache and migraine patients.
Result: Significant reduction in complaints for 76% of the MRS group.
Placebo group: 2.5% some improvement.
GONARTHRITIS (KNEE ARTHRITIS)
Result:
Patients: 176
Pain reduction with MRS: 48%
Pain reduction with placebo group: 8%
Check up after one month: The movement of the group that had been treated with magnetic field therapy had improved compared to that of the placebo group.
SLEEP
Examples of a double blind study for a period of 4 weeks:
101 patients who found it difficult to get to sleep,
woke up during the night or had nightmares. In addition effectiveness checks for tiredness during the day, headaches and ability to concentrate.
Result:
Magnetic field treatment
- 70% great improvement or free of symptoms
- 24% significant improvement
- 6% slight improvement
Placebo group
- 2% great improvement
- 49% slight improvement
- 49% no improvement
Therefore, the findings of the studies on sleep therapy with MRS are obvious.
